This month, we interviewed Kevin Kelley, Safety and Health Director for OfficeMax, in our ErgoAccelerator e-newsletter. Kevin has been involved in ergonomics with various corporations for over a decade and offers the following key learnings for managing a successful ergonomics process:
- Quantitative tools are essential when selling ergonomics to leadership. Being able to assign a risk factor score, for example, means you can establish measurable goals to reduce them.
- Leadership needs to understand that ergonomics is a journey. It’s not just a buzzword, and it takes time and resources to implement solutions.
- Ergonomics education needs to be conveyed so it’s easily digestible and easily retained. “Field-friendly” tools, like Humantech’s Hit List™, quickly help all levels of employees see their jobs with ‘ergo eyes’.
