The job we highlighted this week was the entry “Bull Gear Deburring” from the 2011 Find It – Fix It Challenge. Prior to the improvement, the operator had to lift a 400 lb gear multiple times to deburr (a finishing method in which rough edges of metal are smoothed) it. Because the gear was in a horizontal position, the operator had to bend over to grind the edges off the gear teeth.
Let’s see how they fixed that job!
The company created a fixture to hold the gear in a vertical position. Mounting the fixture on a portable, adjustable table allows the associate to perform the work more comfortably.
Be sure to come back next week for the next round of “How’d They Fix That?”
