Parker Hannifin’s Greenfield, TN plant was named the winner of the People’s Choice Award for its Copper Movement entry during the Find It – Fix It Challenge Winners Revealed webinar today. A summary of the winning entry is below.
Old furniture-moving dollies were being re-purposed for the movement of 800-pound crates of copper. Total movement distance is 600 ft. Operators on the front of the dolly have a rope to pull and operators in the back have to bend over and place their hands on the crate to push.
New dollies were built in house from extra pieces of aluminum. The dollies included side rails for centering the load, larger casters for easier rolling, and built-in handles to allow the operators to move the load without entering into poor posture. There was also a cost reduction due to the amount of time saved to move the material.
