Wait a Minute …Red Means “Go”?
by Lauren Caris
I can’t be the only one this has happened to. In fact, I know I’m not because the bank teller told me so! With all of today’s technology, it’s interesting that so many human factors issues still exist in everyday life. Take, for example, this drive-through banking machine. This past weekend, I went to deposit a few checks at my local bank. I opened the clear capsule, inserted the documents, and popped it back onto the vacuum machine. Then I hit the green “Send” button on the right. Wait a minute! That’s the “Call Teller” button? So the “Send” button is actually the red button on the left? Red is what we associate with words like “stop” or “help”. The teller was not surprised that I hit the wrong button, as it probably happens quite frequently.
What everyday places do you find human factors or ergonomics issues?
